Winter Warmer: Festive Mulled Cider

The perfect and inexpensive winter warmer, sure to please your guests this Christmas. Skip the mulled wine and turn your attention to mulled cider instead.

Serves: 2 Litres
Prep Time: 5 mins
Cooking Time: 35 mins
  • 2 Litres of Cider
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 tbsp All Spice
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1  Star of Anise
  • Sugar (to serve)
  • Orange and Lemon Slices (to serve – optional)
  1. Pour the cider into a large pan on a low heat and let it warm through for a few minutes. Add all the spices and turn the heat up. Once boiling, turn down to a simmer and leave to tick away for 5–8 minutes.
  2. As everything infuses you’ll get delicious layers of flavour. Taste it and add sugar as you like. You don’t want it sweet; you just want the sugar to join the spices in a harmonious taste. When you’re happy with the flavours, ladle into glasses or mugs and serve warm.

TIP: To keep it warm, why not use the slow cooker on a low heat – that way it can stay warm while the party continues.
